In 1985 Agri-Gold planted seven varieties of Cannas, on thirty acres, on the South Plains of Texas. The Cannas thrived in the arid climate and produced extremely well. A little luck and a great deal of hard work allowed the crop of tubers to be sold into the marketplace. Owners, Royce McFadden and Dewey Hukill, journeyed to their customers to determine their needs from bulb suppliers. The current production facility was purchased and transformed into the most automated Canna facility in the United States allowing Agri-Gold to process, package and ship large numbers of Cannas during the Winter and early Spring.  The Canna production has now grown to 320 acres of 72 varieties, including the Dwarf varieties recently acquired in the acquisition of Quality Gladiolus Gardens.

A few years later Agri-Gold saw the need for German Iris to be produced on a large scale. Today 93 varieties of Iris are grown on 235 acres for the bulb industry. Iris are shipped during two different seasons to meet our customers needs. Fall Iris are shipped beginning July 15th and continuing through August. The Spring Iris are dug in December through the middle of January. The quality of Iris produced on the South Plains of Texas is second to none, making our Iris the most desirable in the industry. Flexibility in shipping, quality and availability make Agri-Gold an easy choice when purchasing Iris bulbs.

Recently Agri-Gold began growing Daylilies to meet the needs of their growing customers.  We are proud of the broad based selection that we have to offer. Daylilies can be shipped throughout the year, although the majority are sold in the Spring and Fall.

There have been some recent changes made to Agri-Gold.  As most of you know, Dewey and Royce have been in business for the past 21 years. As of October 1, 2006, Royce bought Dewey's stock in the company. It is now ran by Royce and son, Michael McFadden. Michael entered the company about five years ago in the production side of the business and has been farming for twelve years. We do not foresee any changes and intend on having the same great service that we've provided for so many years.
